Alphabet
April 08, 2008
Description:
From the bestselling creator of "Tails" and "Dog" comes an alphabet book that will tickle and delight. The grand finale spread is a feat of novelty mastery bursting with individual pop-ups of every letter of the alphabet. (Baby/Preschool)
Children's Literature Review:
This over-sized book is a lift-the-flaps and touch-the-textures production with both pull and push tabs. All of the pages are constructed of stiff board book material with flaps both large and small and three big tabs clearly marked to indicate whether the tabs are to be pushed or pulled. The pages are filled with unexpected delights of color, texture and art. Shimmering blue dragonflies (for the letter D) share the first double-page spread with a dandelion and a duck, an alligator, an acorn, and an anteater, a baboon, a beaver and a bee, a cougar, a caterpillar, a crab, and a cattail. There are a few of the old familiar alphabet figureheads such as elephants and kangaroos, but there are trickier items to identify, too, such as figs and wasps, along with the less familiar xenops bird and a family of tamarins. A sturdy poster that shows the creatures and plants pictured in the book popping up as their alphabet flaps are raised can be found in the back of the book.
