How can I join Borders Rewards?
It's easy.
1. Just pick up a Borders Rewards card at any Borders, Borders Express, or Waldenbooks, or sign up online at Borders.com.
2. Provide your valid email address.
3. Start earning rewards.
If you want the convenience of online account tracking, you can register your card online at Borders.com/rewards.

When will I receive my Borders Rewards card if I sign up online?
Your card should be delivered by mail within 4-6 weeks of your sign up date. You will be eligible to accrue and redeem Rewards from the moment you sign up.

What is Online Registration?
You are an Online Registered Member if you have registered your Borders Rewards card at Borders.com/rewards. We encourage you to register your card online even if you have signed up for Borders Rewards in a store. As an Online Registered Member, you get convenient online access to account information at BordersRewards.com. Plus, when you register online, you get a rewarding welcome gift.

Can I check my balance and transaction history online if I am a no-email member?
Yes. If you are doing it for the first time, you can simply login into Borders.com/rewards and type your Borders Rewards number as your username and password. You can use your regular sign in information if you have updated it already.

Am I a member if I don't register my Borders Rewards card online?
Yes. Absolutely. You can even customize your email and request credits at Borders.com/rewards if you are not registered online. However, you won't be able to view your account summary and account detail unless you are online registered.

Does it matter which store I shop at, Borders or Waldenbooks, if I want to earn rewards?
No. All your Qualifying Purchases at Borders, Borders Express, and Waldenbooks count toward your rewards accrual. Now you can also accrue rewards online at Borders.com. For example, if in a calendar month you spend $20 in Qualifying Purchases at Waldenbooks and $30 at Borders, and $30 at Borders.com, your Qualifying Purchases for the program will be $80.

What are Qualifying Purchases?
Qualifying Purchases are purchases you make that qualify for Borders Bucks accrual. They are purchases made at participating stores, and online at Borders.com, excluding purchases of gift cards and gift certificates, after discounts and coupons and before sales tax is added. Shipping and gift wrapping are also excluded from accrual and redemption. Transactions in which Group Savings and Services or Teacher/Classroom discounts are applied do not qualify for Borders Bucks accrual. Items purchased or reserved through In-Store Pickup qualify for Borders Bucks accrual at the time of purchase.

Do my Borders Bucks expire?
Yes. Borders Bucks expire on the last day of the month in which they were issued. That means if you earn Borders Bucks on August 5, they will be issued during the first week of September and will expire on September 30, of the same year.

What if I spend more than $150?
Any amount spent over $150 rolls over (through the end of the calendar year) until you reach the next cumulative total of $150 needed to earn $5 in Borders Bucks. There is no limit to how many Borders Bucks you can earn in a calendar month or a calendar year.

Do cafe purchases in Borders stores count toward rewards accrual?
Yes. Purchases made with your Borders Rewards Card at any Cafe Borders or Seattle's Best Coffee cafe operating in our stores count toward rewards accrual.

Will the AARP discount work in conjunction with Borders Rewards and can people redeem Borders Bucks when they use an AARP discount?
The AARP discount and Borders Rewards coupons can be applied within the same transaction. However, they can not use the AARP discount in conjunction with another discount or coupon offer for any single item. Customers may use their Borders Bucks on transactions where AARP discounts were applied.

Can I get a duplicate Borders Rewards card for a member of my family?
No. Borders Rewards is nontransferable. We will not restrict family members from sharing one card, but the Borders Bucks accrued with the card will be sent to the email address of the individual who originally enrolled or registered the card.

Can I use my Borders Rewards card while shopping at a Borders store outside the United States?
Not at this time. Borders Rewards is currently valid only in the United States and Puerto Rico.

Can I cancel my Borders Rewards membership? What happens with my rewards?
Yes. However, if you cancel your Borders Rewards membership, your account and unused rewards will be forfeited. You will also be unsubscribed from all emails you currently receive from Borders and/or Waldenbooks. If you wish to cancel your Borders Rewards membership but still want to receive email, you can subscribe to Borders email at beta.borders.com. Borders Bucks

What are Borders Bucks and how do I earn them?
Borders Bucks are rewards that you earn in $5 increments each time you spend a cumulative total of $150 or more in Qualifying Purchases in a calendar year. We will send you an email notifying you of your Borders Bucks and of their expiration date if the member provided a valid email address. Online Registered Members can always check their Borders Bucks Balance on the Account Summary page of Borders.com/rewards.

How do I redeem Borders Bucks?
Be sure to tell the cashier that you would like to redeem your Borders Bucks when you check out at Borders, Borders Express, or Waldenbooks. Then just present your Borders Rewards card. On Borders.com just type your Borders Rewards number during the checkout process.

How do I know my Borders Bucks Balance?
There are several ways to find out your Borders Bucks Balance. If you have registered your card online, you can view your Borders Bucks Balance on your Borders.com/rewards Account Summary page. Please allow 24-48 hours after your purchase for any transaction to post to your account. If you have not registered your Borders Rewards card online, you can present your Borders Rewards card to a cashier and ask for a balance, or call 800.443.7359 for automated account information. Also, all Borders Rewards members will be notified of any Borders Bucks via email when they are issued if they provided a valid email address.

What if the amount of my purchase is less than the amount of my Borders Bucks Balance?
Your account retains the balance of your Borders Bucks. You can redeem them at any Borders, Borders.com, Borders Express, or Waldenbooks throughout the redemption period. That means, if you have $5 in Borders Bucks and use $3 on July 15, you have until the end of July to redeem the remaining $2.

Do I get cash back if I use only part of my Borders Bucks?
No. You cannot get cash back for Borders Bucks. However, you can use your Borders Bucks in multiple visits and transactions until the end of the month in which they were issued.

Can I redeem my Borders Bucks with any purchase?
Borders Bucks are redeemable for merchandise only. They cannot be combined with Educator Savings Week and other Savings/Appreciation events. Borders Bucks cannot be combined with Group Savings and Services or Teacher/Classroom discounts or the purchase of any of the following items: gift cards and certificates, rush fees, special-order deposits and shipping, gift wrapping, tickets and donations. Borders Bucks can be combined with in-store discounts such as those that pertain to bestsellers and Borders Original Voices.

What happens if I have Qualifying Purchases toward Borders Bucks in December?
Qualifying Purchases can roll over during a calendar year.

  • For example, if you have spent a cumulative total of $150 in Qualifying Purchases during December 2007, you have earned $5 in Borders Bucks, and will be able to redeem those Borders Bucks beginning during the first week of January 2008 through the end of January 2008.
  • If you have accumulated less than $150 in Qualifying Purchases at the end of December, your accrued balance of Qualifying Purchases will become zero ($0) on January 1.

What happens if I spend $300 in a month? Can I earn more than $5 in Borders Bucks in a month?
Yes, you can. You earn $5 in Borders Bucks each and every time you spend a cumulative total of $150 in Qualifying Purchases. If you spend $300 in Qualifying Purchases during a calendar month, you will receive $10 in Borders Bucks. There is no limit to how many Borders Bucks you can earn.

What is Borders Rewards Perks?
Borders Rewards Perks is a personalized service available to Borders Rewards members that offers exclusive savings on the brands and services they love from well-known names like Lands' End, The Children's Place, Ann Taylor, Target, Philips Electronics, Orbitz, and more than 2,000 other non-competitive retailers and manufacturers. Once you enroll, you'll have access to customized offers at www.BordersRewardsPerks.com. You can also choose to receive email reminders letting you know when your favorite merchants' offers are available.

How may I join the Borders Rewards Perks program?
Throughout 2008, Borders will send an email to Borders Rewards members granting them access to Borders Rewards Perks. Clicking on the "Start Saving" link in the email invitation will take you to the Borders Rewards Perks homepage. From there, simply click on the "Enroll Now" button to begin the brief enrollment process.

What kind of offers will I receive?
At enrollment, you will answer a few brief questions about yourself and your shopping interests. The offers you receive will be tailored to your interests. You can also opt in to receive emails about specific types of offers, merchants, and events of your choosing.

Borders Rewards Perks is free to join. You may choose to upgrade to Borders Rewards Perks Plus for an annual fee of $29.95. For your convenience, Borders Rewards Perks Plus memberships are automatically renewed unless you uncheck the automatic renewal check box presented to you just prior to enrollment or you revoke the automatic renewal of your membership by contacting Customer Service at cs@bordersrewardsperks.com.

What is the difference between the Borders Rewards Perks and Borders Rewards Perks Plus?
With Borders Rewards Perks, you will receive special offers on everyday purchases that may be available for extended time periods. Borders Rewards Perks Plus gives you access to premium offers with even deeper savings that may be available for shorter periods. There are also sales, retailers' events, promotions, and travel savings that are exclusive to Borders Rewards Perks Plus members.

Membership in Borders Rewards Perks will not be cancelled unless and until you affirmatively cancel your membership. Borders Rewards Perks Plus membership, which is available for an annual fee of $29.95, renews automatically every year unless you uncheck the automatic renewal check box presented to you just prior to enrollment or you revoke the automatic renewal of your membership by contacting Customer Service at cs@bordersrewardsperks.com. Members will be notified 30 days prior to their anniversary date that their membership will renew, and those who do not wish to renew their membership in Borders Rewards Perks Plus can opt out at that time. Membership in Borders Rewards Perks will not be cancelled unless and until you affirmatively cancel your membership.

You may opt out of receiving any or all Borders Rewards Perks emails at any time by editing your email settings. Since many of the offers are available for a limited time only, we recommend opting in for specific merchants of interest to you. You can specify your choices by going to the 'Email & Reminders' link in the left navigation bar. Please note that changing your email preferences for Borders Rewards Perks will not in any way change your Borders Rewards membership status or Borders Rewards email preferences.

I want to cancel my Borders Rewards Perks Plus membership; can I still receive Borders Rewards Perks offers?
Yes, you will continue to have access to Borders Rewards Perks offers as long as you are a Borders Rewards member. Should you cancel your Borders Rewards Perks Plus membership, you will receive a notice explaining that you will still have access to the Borders Rewards Perks Plus offers until your current membership expires, as the annual membership fee is nonrefundable after 30 days. Please note that your Borders Rewards membership status and email preferences will not change when you discontinue your Borders Rewards Perks Plus membership.

If it has been less than 30 days since you have signed up for Borders Rewards Perks Plus, we will refund your membership in the same credit card or method of payment you used to pay for your membership.

Troubleshooting

I forgot to bring my card to the store. Can you look up my Borders Rewards card number?
Yes. It's much easier if you are an Online Registered Member. You can just tell any cashier in a store the email address or telephone number you used when enrolling or registering your card online, and the cashier will be able to look up your card number. Please note, while you can earn Borders Bucks without a card, you must have your card or a valid ID with you when redeeming rewards.

I forgot to show my card at the store last time I shopped. Can I still get credit for that purchase?
Yes. Go to the Request Credit page at Borders.com/rewards 24-48 hours after your purchase. All Borders Rewards members can access this page. You will be asked to enter your Borders Rewards Card number and your email address, and you will need to have a receipt from the transaction in question. If you have any problems in requesting credit, please contact Customer Care.

I lost my Borders Rewards card. Can you replace it?
Yes. Please contact Borders Rewards Member Services Department by phone at 800.443.7359 and a representative will assist you in ordering a new card. You can continue to accrue rewards by providing the cashier with the email address or telephone number you provided when you enrolled or registered your card. But you will need your card or a valid ID present to redeem rewards.

How can I verify that my purchases have been applied to my Borders Rewards card so I can earn rewards?
Whenever you use your card in a store, your Borders Rewards card number will be printed on your receipt. If you are an Online Registered Member, you can view your Transaction and Rewards History page at Borders.com/rewards to verify that your Qualifying Purchases have been recorded. Please allow at least 24-48 hours for transactions to be posted to your account.
