1The Murderer Next DoorThe Murderer Next Door: Why the Mind Is Designed to Kill
by David M. Buss

This is a work of sociology that essentially argues how homicide is a normal extension of human nature. The most interesting details come from surveys conducted by the author; he asks average people to anonymously detail their most violent fantasies. Everyone is crazy.

2HudHud

This 1963 film about a drunken, amoral cowboy is probably my favorite Paul Newman performance of all-time. It also includes a weirdly sexy Patricia Neal, optimistic sadness, and numerous cow assassinations.

3Jacksonville City NightsJacksonville City Nights
by Ryan Adams and the Cardinals

I feel like this album was oddly (or perhaps predictably) ignored when it came out in '05, partially because Adams is so counter-intuitively prolific. I realize a lot of people have already made up their mind about this dude, but he's kind of an amazing talent.

4PrimerPrimer

I have watched this film four times; I still don't (really) understand what happened. Everytime I see it, I have an overwhelming desire to sit quietly in a dark room and think about the nature of time.

5The Great Radio ControversyThe Great Radio Controversy by Tesla

This was the 1989 sophomore release from Sacramento's Tesla, the most staunchly ethical non-Christian hair band ever created. I can't think of any other metal song remotely similar to the track "Be a Man" (at least lyrically), which is reason enough to own this record (at least if you are me).
