1RipeRipe
by Ben Lee

This CD has been pretty much my soundtrack for the last few months. There's just something about Ben Lee's music. It's like Prozac for your ears.

2Certain GirlsCertain Girls
by Jennifer Weiner

I've been a big fan of Weiner's since her first novel, Good in Bed. This book, her latest, is a sequel to that story. I'm not usually a big fan of sequels in any medium, but this book is just so well done. Reading it was like hanging out with old friends.

3Hippos Go Berserk!Hippos Go Berserk!
by Sandra Boynton

I have a seven month old daughter, and this is her very favorite book. We read it every night, and I can quote the entire thing from start to finish, a skill that I am thinking may come in handy at a cocktail party at some point. You never know.

4Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless MindEternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I have a terrible time picking just one movie as a favorite—I am entirely too indecisive, about all things—but when forced, this is always the one I choose. The story is so unique, and every time I watch it I find some new nuance or detail that amazes me. I love it so much, in fact, that I took my daughter's middle name. Clementine, from Kate Winslet's character.

5Dazed and ConfusedDazed and Confused

Since I write about teenagers, I'm always drawn to anything having to do with high school, and this, in my mind, is the perfect high school movie. I have been known to abandon all plans for the evening if I find it on TV to watch it instead. Which is especially sad, considering I also own it on DVD.
