Karen's Cherry Almond Cake

¾ cup finely chopped almonds to coat greased bundt pan
1 cup sugar
½ cup soft butter
½ cup milk
½ tsp almond extract
1 container ricotta cheese
2 eggs
2½ cups flour
1 cup dried cherries (roughly chopped)
1 cup chopped almonds
3 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
powdered sugar

Beat sugar, butter, milk, extract, cheese, eggs in large bowl on low speed until blended. Beat on medium speed for two minutes. Add remaining ingredients. Consistency will be very thick. Spoon into greased Bundt pan that is already coated with finely chopped almonds. Bake at 350 degrees for 55-65 minutes. Cool on rack for at least 20 minutes before serving. Remove from bundt pan and sprinkle powdered sugar on top.
